October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for me this isn’t just about wearing pink or attending an event. It’s about taking our health seriously. Most of us know someone who has battled breast cancer, whether it’s a friend, family member, or maybe even you.
For my ladies especially, please make sure you’re scheduling your mammograms as recommended by your doctor. Since I’m over 45, I’m supposed to have mine every year. I’ll be honest, for a long time I wasn’t consistent. But last year, I made the choice to do better. I set an annual reminder in my Notion calendar, and this year I was right on time for my appointment. It felt good to follow through, and I want the same for you.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Nashville
Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Nashville is more than just a campaign. It’s a chance for our community to come together, honor survivors, support families, and take steps toward early detection and better outcomes. There are several walks and events happening this October where you can participate, donate, or simply stand in support.
- Susan G. Komen Nashville “More Than Pink” Walk
Saturday, October 4 at Nashville Yards
This 5K walk raises funds for breast cancer research and patient support. I’ll be walking in honor of a dear friend who is a survivor. If you’d like to support, you can donate here: Komen Walk Donation Link - American Cancer Society “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walk
Saturday, October 11 at First Horizon Park
This noncompetitive walk celebrates survivors, caregivers, and brings the community together. My Blk at Compass family will be participating, and I’m honored to be walking alongside them. Support here: ACS Walk Link
Spotlight on Pink Christmas
One of my favorite local nonprofits in Nashville is Pink Christmas, founded in 2009 by Felicia Pratt after she lost her mother to breast cancer. Out of that loss, Felicia turned her grief into a mission. She created Pink Christmas to provide an “Oasis of Hope” for breast cancer survivors and their families in Nashville and Memphis. What started as a way to honor her mom has grown into a powerful community organization that brings comfort, support, and encouragement to countless women and their loved ones each year.

Pink Christmas Upcoming Events:
- Pancake Breakfast for the Cure – Saturday, October 4 in Antioch at the Southeast Community Center
- Dine Out for Charity – Every Monday in October at Sedona Taphouse
- Hope Candle Initiative – Ongoing through October (order by phone or online)
